May, 2004 | Malaysia
My journey began April 18, leaving Los Angeles for Malaysia. My assignment; asked of by my father; 5 weeks of assisting and serving the elderly yoga master in his travels(eventually to India, before i went to Sri Lanka) and classes for new students. My father has followed his teachings since before i was born...and at birth I was named by the Yogi.
The assignment was no walk in the park..and had i known that it was to be followed by so much adventure and independance...maybe i wouldn't have been so grumpy about the austerities, like, sleep deprivation on concrete floors, rare freedoms that had to be often requested, super ireggular meal times and lots of unpaid chores.

well, all in all it turned out fine, and the lots of great folks i met made it a wonderful experience.

I also was able to question and explore a lot of my own questions about my childhood and understanding of my fathers decisions.

June, 2004 | Sri Lanka
My buddy Miuru met me at the airport and I stayed with his family for a few days before we left on a journey to the remote eastern jungle beaches. Good fun. After a few days he returned home and I stayed on to await the next big surf...
Miuru and I in a tuk-tuk(auto rickshaw) headed out on our adventure.

old school surfers...that charge!
while paddling out on the biggest day I got tossed and pinned down on a submerged rock...got all scratched up...and got two stitches in my head. Ouch! i couldn't surf for two days! bummer.

There was a first time to the area surf contest that was sponsored by Sri Lanka Airlines, among others. They flew in 50 pro surfers from the British circuit, including men and women from UK, Ireland and South Africa. There was a lot of excitment in the air, especially for locals who got to compete in the first time ever all local event...big, all night parties throughout.

A few months later this area was wiped out by the catastrophic tsunami. The eastern coast of Sri Lanka was among the hardest hit areas.

July, 2004 | India
I've been taking it easy in India, staying out my god-uncle's(Carlos) flat in Pondicherry. He is on a overseas study program. I mainly focused on getting some work done.
this is "coffee.com" where i spent a lot of work hours drinking good capucinos..and hired to do website for owner, above.
this is some of my uncle's(Carlos, second from left) friends at the usual tea time.

So, now begins another chapter of travels...going back to Sri Lanka...see my parents there who suddenly decided to go for three week vacation and i'll go get some more waves. Then I'm hoping to go to Nepal and different parts of India, and....continue the adventure. I may sell the laptop for funds...so it's generally an open book!
